What is the Difference between Bluefin, Bigeye, Ahi, Albacore and Yellowfin Tuna
Tuna is a famous saltwater fish which is widely used for eating purposes. The term canned tuna is famous all over the world and extensively used for sandwiches and salads. People also like tuna fish due to its extensive nutritional value. It is enriched with omega-3 fatty acids and protein. The number of species of tuna are fifteen and all these fifteen species belong to 5 genera. Bluefin, Bigeye, Ahi, Albacore and Yellowfin Tuna are the names of some species of tuna which are different from each other in many respects. Here is the difference between Bluefin, Bigeye, Ahi, Albacore and Yellowfin Tuna.
Bluefin Tuna
There are four species which are categorized as Bluefin Tuna. The names of these species are Atlantic Bluefish Tuna, Pacific Bluefish Tuna, Southern Bluefish Tuna and Longtail Tuna. The oceans of first three species of Bluefin Tuna are obvious from their names, but the area of Longtail Tuna is Indo-Pak Pacific waters. Moreover, one thing is common in these different sized species which blue color of fins.
Bigeye Tuna
Bigeye Tuna is the most famous specie of Tuna which is used as a food source in various countries. In fact, this is the fish which is found in many oceans either tropical or temperate. However, it is not found in the Mediterranean sea. The fame of Bigeye fish as a game fish is not ignorable for recreational purpose.
Ahi Tuna
There are two species of Tuna fish which are categorized as Ahi in Hawaii. The one is Bigeye Tuna and the other is Yellowfin Tuna.
Albacore
Albacore is a species of Tuna fish which is famous in the United States as White Meat Tuna. It is costly fish and found in every open water including Mediterranean sea.
Yellowfin Tuna
The yellowfish tuna is one of the largest species of tuna fish and it is often confused with many other species of tuna fish thanks to its presence in almost all ocean waters.
Bluefin vs Bigeye vs Ahi vs Albacore vs Yellowfin Tuna
No doubt, all species of tuna fish are different from each other with respect to size, behavior, color and use as a food source. However, it is important to clear the concept about Ahi tuna which means both yellow fish and bigeye fish. Remember! People often become confused between yellowfin tuna and Bigeye, but yellowfin tuna is relatively smaller sized fish as compared to bigeye tuna.
