What is the Difference between Frogs and Toads
Frogs and toads lie in the vertebrate animal class and both are amphibians. The meanings of amphibians are two lives. one is aquatic larval stage that is tadpole stage and the other is adult stage as semi-aquatic. Toads and frogs have many similarities, including the way they look. But there are some basic differences between them. To elaborate the key differences between these two amphibians, here is a detailed description.
Frog
Frogs lie in the category of amphibians and belong to Anura order. The description of a frog is short body, protruding eyes, webbed fingers and having no tail. Being excellent jumpers, these are taken as adaptations due to their strong and lengthy legs that make their jumping ability, very exceptional. No doubt, frogs feel freedom in moving on land, but can line in humid and semi-aquatic regions thanks to their permeable layer. Frogs lay eggs and the location of their laying is ponds or puddles. Their larvae have ability to grow under water due to their gills and called tadpoles.
Toad
Toad is also one of amphibian specie and belongs to Anura order as well. Their features include leathery skin, but usually dry in nature with brown color. Moreover, they have short legs and parotid glands just wart-like. However, there is no fear of transmitting warts in case of physical contact. There are bumps on skin of toads that help the blending of animals to its environment. Some people consider parotids glands as warts, but it is not.
Frog vs Toads
Frogs have finer bodies with narrower waists while toads' bodies are broader. Frogs have feet which are specially structured to act as suction caps to enable them to climb trees and other surfaces. Toads are entirely ground-dwelling. Similarly, Frogs have an amazing variety of colors like green, yellow, orange, red, black and even blue. Toads are duller in appearance. Frogs have long, webbed hind feet: they can jump and leap very far because they have strong back legs, but toads cannot leap very far or jump very high because they have short hind legs. Toads walk instead of hopping. Some frogs have poison glands, but all toads have poison glands behind their eyes.
