What is the Difference between Rabbits, Gophers, Rats, Squirrels and Chipmunks

Animals add beauty in this world. There are lots of species of animals present in all over the world, which are different from each other in terms of size, shape, habitant and food. Small species like rats, rabbits, squirrels and gopher are different from each other in many ways. Let’s have a look on difference between them.

Rabbit

Rabbits are small mammals belongs to leporidae family. They found in all over the world and very common pets. Their family includes different 8 genera.

Gopher

It is a generic term which can be used for different animals like small burrowing rodents endemic to North America.  They are about 38 cm in length and weighs only 230 g.

Rats

They belong to family muroidea. They are different in shape and size. There are different size rodents rats. Black rat is most common in humans.

Squirrels

They belong to a large family sciuridae. It contains different medium to small size rodents. Tree squirrels, ground squirrels and marmots are different types of squirrels.

Chipmunks

They are striped squirrels. They only found in north America and Asia. They are normally classified as single genus or three genera.

The difference between rabbit and gopher is that, rabbit are small mammal and found in all over the world they are domesticated and used as pet. While, gopher is a generic term which is not used typically for any animals. It is usually used for small burrowing which are very small in size. Difference between rats and squirrels is. Rats are found in maximum areas of world and they found in homes also. While, squirrels are different in shape and size from rats. They are in small to medium sizes. They are found in specific areas. chipmunks are also squirrels but they belong to a different family.
