What is the Difference between Roundworm, Tapeworm, Earthworm and Other Worms
The term worm is used for a class of invertebrate animals, which has long cylindrical body and they have no legs. There are many types of worms; some cause infection in human and live inside the human body. Some others live in soil and are very use for soil fertility. Roundworms, tapeworms and earthworms are some examples of worms. Here, we are discussing the difference between them.
Roundworm
Roundworms are parasites, which can cause infection in human. They live in human intestine. Their length is from 1mm to 1m. They live in soil, but when a person come in contact with them and eat something without washing hand, they get access to human body. Some roundworms can enter inside our body, through our skin. Ascariasis is the most common infection caused by roundworms.
Tapeworm
Tapeworms also cause digestive infections in humans. They are transferred inside the human, with undercooked food. If larva gets access to human body, it can develop itself in an adult tapeworm. They are of many types and commonly found in Africa and Asia.
Earth Worm
Earth worms are members of phylum Annelida. They live inside the soil and eat sand particles as their food. They are known for their beneficial effects on soil, as they increase the aeration and plants can grow well. You can find them in your garden, after heavy rain. Earthworms are eaten as food by birds, snakes and moles.
Other Worms
Other than roundworms, tapeworms and earth worm, they are many other types of worms, which include flat worms, bristle worms and many others. In animal kingdom, many phyla like annelid, nematode and platy helminthes have members which are called as worms. All of them have different characteristics.
Roundworm vs Tapeworm vs Earthworm vs Other Worms
Roundworms and tapeworm are parasitic in nature and live inside the human body. On the other hand earthworm lives in soil and is not infectious for human. Round worm is transferred through soil, while tapeworms are transferred through undercooked food. Roundworms are member of nematode phylum, while tapeworms belong to the group called as flat worms. Earth worm belong to phylum annelid. All other worms have different characteristics and features. Some are infectious for human, while many are not.
