There are countless types of birds all over the world that vary from each other in terms of appearance, habits, size and color. Swan Penguin Flamingo Rhea Ostrich and Emu are some types of birds that are different from each others in many respects. Here are some differences between these various types of birds.
Sawn
Sawn belongs to duck family Anatidae. They are one of the prominent largest flying birds with maximum length up to 60 inches and weight upto35 pounds. The wingspan of larger swans can reach up to 10 ft. There are nine species of swans and almost all are herbivorous.
Penguin
Penguin is a famous flightless bird that is aquatic in nature and found only in Southern Hemisphere mainly Antarctica. These birds are good swimmers and lie on aquatic life like fish, krill, squid etc. as their food. The exact count of penguin specie is a disputing matter, but most are agreed upon 18-20 species of penguins.
Flamingo
Flamingo is a long-longed bird that fulfills the exact definition of wading birds and love water for swimming and diving. A strange habit of flamingo is that, it stands still on its one leg for several hours and hides the second one beneath its body. There are six species of flamingo and among them four belong to America. Their major diet is blue-green algae.
Rhea
Rhea is a type of bird that is not only flightless but having no keel on their breastbone. So they are ratite birds with having long neck and long legs as well. Their height could reach up to 5 feet. There are only two living species of Rhea and both belong to South America.
Ostrich
Ostrich is also flightless bird and largest ratite all over the world. the special features of Ostrich is its highest speed among all earth birds that is 70m km per hour, largest body structure among all birds and bird with biggest laying eggs. It is purely native to Africa and also has one sub-specie called Somali Ostrich.
Emu
Emu is the second largest flightless ratite bird in the world that belongs to Australia. It can also run fast with the speed up to 50 km per hour and has long thin neck and legs. There are three subspecies of Emu. It has ability to swim as well.
Swan vs Penguin vs Flamingo vs Rhea vs Ostrich vs Emu
The one common thing among all these birds is that, all they have long necks and long thin legs. However, among all these, only swan and flamingo are the birds that can fly in contrast to Penguin, Rhea, Ostrich and Emu that are flightless bird. However, among these flightless birds, only penguin is not ratite. Among Rhea, Ostrich and Emu, Ostrich is the largest ratite and Emu is the second largest ratite bird all over the world. moreover, the running speed of Ostrich is also maximum that exceeds the running speed of Emu with 20 km per hour.
