What is the Difference between Publicity Branding Advertising and Promotion

Marketing is very important aspect of any business. Different marketing strategies are used in different businesses. Proper marketing can boost any business. When we talk about marketing we come across many different terms, such as publicity, branding, promotion and many others.  Here, we are discussing the differences between these commonly used terms.

Publicity

Publicity is a conscious effort to build public’s perception about any subject. This subject could be a person, any product, service or even an organization. Exhibitions, walks and other event are few forms of publicity.

Branding

Brands play a very important role in the marketing of products and services. People recognize things with their brands. Different branding techniques are used now a day.

Advertising

In this form of communication, a group of people is targeted to take some action regarding a product or service. Through a commercial people are convinced to buy certain product. Common means of advertisement are television, radio, newspapers, magazines and internet. Now a day, SMS is also emerging as an advertising forum.

Promotion

This is the communication bridge between buyers and sellers. With the promotion buyers try to influence the seller’s decision to buy their product and services. Basically, promotion is used to provide necessary information about the product. The aim of the promotion is to increase the demand of the product and differentiate it from other similar items.

Publicity vs Branding vs Advertisement vs Promotion

All these are different elements of marketing, although, they all are related but yet they are different from each other. Publicity is done just for the popularity of a product or service or even a person, while advertising and promotion are conscious efforts to mold people’s perception about a product. Branding is used to create an impact on people’s mind, but it is time taking process.
