What is the Difference between Microculture, Subculture and Counterculture
Culture is commonly called as set of shred values, goals and attitude, which are practiced by a society, which could be small or large. Different cultures are present all over the world, and some of them are quite unique. Religion plays a very important role in any culture. Culture is of many types like Micro culture, sub culture and counter culture. Here we are describing a brief difference between them.
Micro culture
A small unit of culture in a wide general culture is called as micro culture. When a group of people live with their own identity in a wide and dominate culture, without losing their identity, it is called as micro culture. Social beliefs, social forms, religious beliefs and racial traits, all of them together make micro culture. The perfect example of this culture is Native Americans.
Subculture
When a group of people have a unique culture, which differentiate them from larger culture is called as subculture. Sub culture is hidden behind the dominant culture. Hippie culture is the example of sub culture. A culture has many subcultures, with different traits.
Counterculture
The term counterculture describes the values and norms of a cultural group, which are opposite to the main culture. Members of counter culture deviate from the common norms of society. Dandy and bohemianism are examples of counter culture.
Micro culture vs Subculture vs Counterculture
All these are different types of culture. The difference between them is very small but yet they all are different from each other. Micro culture is the small specialized component of the main culture, while sub culture is hidden beneath the main culture. In both cases, individual want to have their own identity. On the other hand, counter culture is bit different. When a group of people in the society adopt a culture, which is opposite to the principle culture, it is called as counter culture. A principle culture might have many micro cultures and subculture.
