What is the Difference between Ephedrine, Epinephrine and Norepinephrine

The progress in bio-medical field has served the mankind in various ways. Today, there might be any disease, for which there will be no medication. However, it is also reality that many of medicines that we take for treatment of one disease have some side effects as well. This is the reason that compels us to take any medicine according to prescription described by a qualified doctor. Ephedrine, Epinephrine and Norepinephrine are the names of such highly useful and effective drugs that also have some side effects in case of extra dosage. People think that all these three medicines are used in almost similar diseases, but it is not right. Let’s see the difference between Ephedrine, Epinephrine and Norepinephrine.

Ephedrine

Ephedrine is used for effective and ready treatment of breathing problems, low blood-pressure, nasal congestion, sleeping disorder and urine-control problem. It acts as a stimulant for central nervous system, so could be dangerous in case of using in a combination with other stimulants like caffeine.

Epinephrine

Use of Epinephrine is a quick treatment for severe allergic reactions, caused by drugs-use, food poisoning, insects bite or any other reason. It is also a stimulant for raising pulse rate, breathing problems and dropping blood-pressure.

Norepinephrine

Norepinephrine is a widely using stress-relieving drug that acts directly upon the attention and response parts of brain. It not only directs the oxygen supply to brain, but also enhance the blood-flow and ultimately raise the blood-pressure.

Ephedrine vs Epinephrine and vs Norepinephrine

No doubt, all the three types of medicines raise the blood-pressure and directly affects the heart beat rate. However, the use of each medicine is specified for different diseases. Ephedrine is best drug in breathing problem in contrast to Epinephrine that is excellent in allergic treatment. Similarly, Norepinephrine is an ideal stress-relieving medicine.
