What is the Difference between Lotion Moisturizer Gel Creme Ointment and Cream

There are many cosmetic products, which are used widely in all over the world. They are used either for some specific purpose or for different body parts as well. Let’s have a look on difference between lotion, gel, moisturizer, crème and ointment.

Lotion

It is a topical application for unbroken skin. It is a low to medium viscosity liquid. It is less in viscosity then gels and creams. It is only for external use.

Moisturizers

A moisturizer is mixture of different chemical agents. They are mixed together to use for dry skin. It gives hydration to the external layers of the skin.

Gel

It is a jelly type material, which has a high viscosity level. It has different properties like hard, soft, weak and tough. Molecules are cross-linked in a liquid.

Ointment

There are many medications, which are used to apply directly on the skin like skin of throat and ear. These are also called tropical. They are of different types.

Crème

Crème is also a mixture of some herbals or chemical and used for different purposes like skin whitening or as a cold crème.

Cream

Cream is a milk product. It is get from milk.  It consist of heavy butterfat because it is removed from milk before homogenization.

The difference between lotion and moisturizer is that, lotion is tropical application on skin, which is unbroken. While, a moisturizer is a mixture of chemicals which is used to apply moisture on dry skin. Difference between gel and ointment is that, gel is a high viscosity liquid used for styling and other purposes. While ointment is a medication, apply directly on the skin. Like ear or throat skin. Difference between crème and cream is, crème is a cosmetic product use for different skin purposes. While cream is a by-product of milk having high butterfat.   .
