What is the Difference between Paternal, Fraternal and Identical Twins
Twins are such two babies that are developed in same pregnancy. It is a common concept that twins have not only matching faces, but show similar behavior in many manners. However, this concept is not true in all respects. In fact, there are three types of twins named as; Paternal, Fraternal and Identical Twins. The causes of developing each individual type are not only different, but the behavior of these different twins is also unlike. Here is detailed explanation of these different types of twins.
Paternal Twins
These are non-identical twins and mostly appear in the form of one boy and one girl. No doubt, there could be two boys or two girls in this case cases, but chances of one boy and one girl are more. In this case, two eggs of mother are fertilized by two sperms at the same time.
Fraternal Twins
In this case, two eggs are released by mother and fertilized by two different sperms. Fraternal twins could be both boys or girls or one boy, one girl. Â Fraternal twin babies are not similar in habits and appearance and distribute not more than 50 % of their genes.
Identical Twins
Identical twin develop in mother womb, when just within first twelve days of mother’s pregnancy, a formerly fertilized egg splits into two embryos. In this case, there are huge cases of having same sex means both identical twins are boys and both are girls.
Paternal vs Fraternal vs Identical Twins
Parental twins and fraternal twins are almost similar in many respects like two eggs are fertilized by two different sperms to make non-identical twins. However, a little difference is that, in case of parental twins, chances of opposite sex babies are more unlike fraternal twins, in which there are equal chances of same or opposite sex. On the contrary, the process of developing identical twins is completely different from other two types of twins. In this case, only one fertilized egg splits into two embryos and chances of same sex for both babies are much more.
