What is the Difference between Organic and Inorganic Compounds

Both organic and inorganic materials are found in this universe. The life contains organic materials while lifeless elements contain inorganic materials in them. Nature has created this universe with an amazing blend of life and lifeless elements. This amazing mix has not only made science to discover the very core of this universe from the very basic matter but also opened many gates of facts on them. How are the organic and inorganic different from each other is explained in the next lines.

Organic Compound

A compound that contains one or more than one carbon atoms, which are bounded to each other through covalent bonds in an element or radical, is called organic compound. Few examples are carbon hydro oxide, proteins, nucleic acids etc. In every living organism; the very basic form of life contains exactly the same property of living. The organic compounds are the modern world’s source of energy for example natural oil is organic in nature and costly than gold or even diamonds.

Inorganic Compound

The inorganic compounds contain the molecules that do not have any carbon atom and the bond between them is always ionic. Examples are sodium chloride, hydrogen, carbon mono oxide etc. The inorganic compounds are mineral in nature which means on the surface of earth or in deep blue sea, they contain the salts and metals. Inorganic compounds are always extracted from non-living organisms like rocks, salt etc.

Organic vs Inorganic Compound

The major difference between organic and inorganic compounds is their source. Organic compounds are extracted from living organisms, while inorganic compounds are extracted from non-living organisms through natural process or in laboratories. The organic compounds contain carbon, while inorganic compounds contain metals with few exceptions like CO etc. Organic compounds are complex in nature unlike inorganic compounds. Inorganic compounds have simple molecule structure while organic molecules have long chain structure.
