What is the Difference between Turquoise, Aquamarine and Blue Topaz

A large number of minerals exist in world, in different forms. Some of them take the shape of stones. Some stones are really precious and used in jewelry. Moreover, in some cultures it is believed that stones have a strong effect on the personality of person, who wears them. These gem stones are different in colors, while some stones like Turquoise, Aquamarine and Topaz are often confused with each other. All these stones are in different shades of blue. Turquoise

It is called turquoise, because it was brought to Europe from Turkey. Chemically speaking, turquoise is hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminum. On the other hand, it is a rare gemstone and used for ornamental purposes from thousands of years. This opaque gem is known for its unique hue. In many culture, good fortune is associated with this stone.

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the member of beryl family, which is silicate in nature. It is present in many shades of blue, but deep blue version is most common and is also called as maxixe. Color of this stone fades in sunlight, but returns to its original shade when kept at cooler place. It is present in the form of large crystals.

Blue Topaz

Topaz is also a silicate mineral, with additions of fluorine and aluminum. It is present in many colors, but Blue topaz is most famous. Blue topaz is very rare in nature. As compared to other gemstone, it is not very expansive.

Turquoise vs Aquamarine vs Blue Topaz

All these are blue gem stones. Turquoise is phosphate of copper and aluminum, while aquamarine and blue topaz are silicates in nature. Aquamarine is a clear gemstone, while turquoise is opaque in nature. Aquamarine is quite expansive, while Blue topaz is cheap. Aquamarine and topaz are tough and hard, while turquoise is relatively not that tough. Color of aquamarine can fade, but blue topaz has permanent color. Aquamarine has weak refraction, while topaz has strong refraction quality.
