What is the Difference between Wind Waves, Storm Surge, Tsunami and Tidal Wave
Ocean waves and wind waves are no doubt, the source of entertainment for the people, but they could be dangerous as well. There are many forms of ocean and wind waves that are disturbing for human beings. Wind Waves, Storm Surge, Tsunami and Tidal Wave are the names of such form of waves that are famous for destroying effects in inhabited areas nearby ocean. History keeps the record of many severe accidents, behind which these waves are responsible. Let’s see the difference between these disturbing forms of waves.
Wind Wave
Wind waves are also known as wind-generated waves. These waves are produced, when wind flows over the surface of water and produce small ripples or huge waves even up to the 30 meters height. The surface of water could be of ocean, seas, rivers and canals.
Storm Surge
Storm surge is a large wave that is produced by means of hurricane. In fact, high winds pile up the water from the surface level of sea and at the same time, low pressure weather system generate a secondary effect and ultimately storm surge flood occur.
Tsunami
Tsunami means such destructive ocean waves that are caused by earthquake under the water surface. Ultimately, a large volume of water is shifted from one point to another and become the cause of severe destructive impact in nearby areas of sea.
Tidal Wave
Tidal wave has the precise definition as it is the wave that can raise up to 1000 ft height and moves up to the speed of 200 MPH.
Wind Waves vs Storm Surge vs Tsunami vs Tidal Wave
Tidal wave has simply meaning the water waves mostly ocean and sea waves that can rises up to too much height than surface level of water and can gain the speed up to 200 mph. obviously, this peed is enough to produce destructive effects upon the earth. While, Wind waves and Storm Surge are the types of these tidal waves. In case of Storm Surge, both wind and low pressure generate a destructive effect in the form of huge water waves and flood as well. On the other hand, Tsunami occurs; when large volume of water shifts from one place to another in contrast to wind waves that generate either ripples or large waves up to 30 meter height.
