What is the Difference Between Similar But Different Things, Terms, and Objects

What is the Difference between Endocytosis Exocytosis Phagocytosis Pinocytosis

Human beings have very weird body mechanism and very strange biological processes automatically take place in our bodies all the time. In fact, these biological processes are necessary for maintaining our health and vigorous body mechanism. Endocytosis, Exocytosis, Phagocytosis and Pinocytosis are the names such biological processes that take place in our bodies. Let’s see the differences between these strange biological processes.

Endocytosis

There are many such molecules, present in our body that have relatively large structure but they are the key requirements of cells in our bodies. Protein is one of those large molcelues that do not pass through cell membranes automatically. In this case, cells absorb such molecules by swallowing them. This process is called Endocytosis.

Exocytosis

Cells in living organisms do not just need intake of molecules; they also direct some molecules out of cell membrane. When a cell discharges some molecule out of cell membrane like secretary vesicles contents, this process is known as Exocytosis.

Phagocytosis

Phagocytosis is the biological process of swallowing just solid particles like bacteria by means of cell membrane in human body. The purpose of Phagocytosis is just to make an internal phagosome around a pathogenic microorganism like harmful bacteria.

Pinocytosis

Pinocytosis is also a form of endocytosis, in which a cell engulfs the relatively small particles through cell membrane and these small particles hydrolyze by means of lysosomes within small vesicles.

Endocytosis vs Exocytosis vs Phagocytosis vs Pinocytosis

Endocytosis, Phagocytosis and Pinocytosis are almost similar processes, in which molecules are engulfed by cell membrane. The difference is that, in Endocytosis only large and non-harmful molecules enter into the cell body in contrast to Phagocytosis, in which entered molecules are also large, but harmful and broken down by enzymes. In case of Pinocytosis, the swallowed molecules are already broken down food particles. On the other side, Exocytosis is different from all other three processes, in which molecules are excreted from cell membrane rather than engulfing.
