What is the Difference between Sewing Purling Weaving Knitting and Crocheting
Clothing is the one of the basic needs of human beings. We wear clothes that are obviously, made up of fabric. However, what is the way of producing fabric. This is another question. There are different ways of making fabric like weaving, knitting, sewing, purling and crocheting. It depends upon the choice of people as well as the condition of atmosphere, on behalf of which people choose the knitted or weave fabric. Anyway, here is the difference between these five terms.
Sewing
The method of attaching two different objects by means of stitches is called sewing. Simply, thread and needle is used in this art. It is one of the ancient textile arts and its origin was located in Paleolithic era.
Purling
The art of purling is not much more different from knitting stitch. The specialty of purling that differentiates it from knitting is that, the working needle should pass downwards means in front of fixed needle.
Weaving
The interlacing of two different threads to make a cloth or fabric is called weaving. In this type of textile art, one set of threads is called warp, while the other one is weft. Warp runs lengthwise, but weft lies in width of fabric.
Knitting
Knitting is also a textile art of making fabric, but different from weaving. The special feature of this art is consecutive loop rows, named as stitches. The end product of knitting is called garment.
Crocheting
Another way of creating fabric by means of yarns or threads is called crocheting. However, a crochet needle is used to make a fabric. In this method, loops are pulled through other loops.
Sewing vs Purling vs Weaving vs Knitting vs Crocheting
Crochet differs from knitting in that, only one stitch is active at one time and a single crochet hook is used instead of two knitting needles. On the other hand, Purling stitch or simply the purl stitch has been regarded as the opposite of the knitting or knit stitch. Knitted fabrics tend to shrink more than woven fabrics. Woven fabric is not stretchable unless, it is especially stretch woven in contrast to knitted fabric that is always stretchable. In sewing, a stitch is a single loop of thread brought in-and-out of the fabric in a particular way.
