What is the Difference between Ethnicity and Race
Ethnicity and race both talk about how long human lives in what place by accepting its culture, traditions and climate? No matter how much they differ in meaning, but they are always considered one and same. Even though dictionary describes them as different words, yet there are some differences that draw a clear line between these two words.
Ethnicity
Ethnicity is basically the traditions, cultures and the behavior of the place, in which a person lives. Every region once had sharp distinct ethnicity that was very visible and clear once. Since, the world has contracted to a global village, so some changes in ethnicity has been also occurred. With the movement from one region to another, one can not only observe the ethnicity of that region but can also adopt those features to become the native. It is all about what culture is followed in that particular region and how they celebrate their cultural values as well as learned behavior.
Race
Race is the biological structure of one’s genes. In easy words, it is all about what the person’s ancestry is. It describes, skin color, skin tone, body structure etc. you can say that race cannot be changed. An African can live and adopt any culture but his look and genetic information will never change. Race basically identifies the regional and biological differences.
Ethnicity vs. Race
Ethnicity and race are the two distinct definitions about the person’s culture and his ancestry. Ethnicity defines what are the traditions followed in a region while the race defines a person biologically. Similarly, ethnicity is changeable and race is not. Ethnicity is slowly becoming complex because of the rapid cultural adoption of multiple cultures globally while the race remains same. In short, ethnicity is the society and race is the people we belong to.
