What is the Difference between Lye, Lay and Lie

There are many similar words in different or even in same languages that sound and sometimes even look alike and same. This is why mostly; they are used interchangeably without giving a second thought to the spellings. Mostly students make this mistake and then when their marks are cut, they do not give any reason to the minus marks. Anyway, difference between lye, lie and lay is given below, these are those words that are used interchangeably most often.

Lie

Lie is a verb that describes an action, a verbal action. Lie means to give out a false statement about something or someone. People lie when they want to hide some truth or when they want to cover some issue up. Thus lie means to give out false statement which holds no logical grounds.

Lay

Lay is also a verb that means to give out. Mostly lay is used for the birds who lay eggs. Lay is also used for devising something like laying down a plan or idea for its practical implications. Thus lay means to give out something.

Lye

Lye is neither a verb nor a noun, nor is it used in grammar anyway. It is a chemical called sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. This chemical is found in many household complex compounds as a component. It dissolves fat and other sticky materials very fast and is a dangerous product.

Lie and lay are verbs that have a specific meaning and can be used in past present and future sentences by changing their forms. Lie means to give out false statement. Lay means to give out an object or to devise a plan or idea. Lye is a chemical product called sodium or potassium hydroxide. This is a dangerous chemical.
