What is the Difference between Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Mixtures

Chemistry is the subject which deals with the properties of elements and compounds. An element has two types of properties i.e. physical properties and chemical properties. The physical properties under grows no chemical change or doesn’t include a chemical reaction while the chemical reaction includes a chemical reaction. If an element or a compound give a product without under growing a chemical change or experiencing a chemical reaction then it is called a mixture. In a mixture both of the participants retain their nature and properties however the physical properties may differ from the original element or compound.  There are two types of mixtures according to their properties and nature. One type is known as heterogeneous while the other kind is known as homogeneous mixture.

Heterogeneous Mixture

A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the two compounds are mixed together to give a product which is not uniform. Usually in such mixture two different layers are form. The lower layer is denser while the upper layer is less dense. The solution thus form is not uniform and is does not have a uniform composition. The parts of this type of mixture can be separated from each other and can be seen easily with naked eye. An example of such a mixture is sandy water.

Homogenous Mixture

A homogenous type of a mixture is a mixture in which two compounds are mixed together in a way to give a uniform solution and it is very difficult to separate the compounds from the product after the solution is formed. The different compounds cannot be identified in the solution. The mixture is quite stable.

Homogenous Mixture Vs Heterogeneous Mixture

Heterogeneous mixture has different densities but homogeneous mixture has uniform density all over. Heterogeneous mixture has no uniform composition and its compound can be separated while in case of homogeneous mixture its difficult to separate compounds or to identify them as they form uniform mixture and are more stable.
